Jeff Buckley live at the Roskilde Festival (30/06/95). This excellent performance has been edited together from three different sources for the best possible quality. All sources originate from a soundboard recording.

Notes: 
 After downloading what I thought was Jeff Buckley live at Nighttown, in Rotterdam I quickly discovered what I had was tracks from a bootleg called "Son Of The Starsailor", a mixture of live tracks from three different performances. To my dismay the excellent version of "Hallelujah" (from the Roskilde Festival) broke up near the end so I set out to find it in complete form, and if possible the complete concert.

After a long search and many dead links I found a FLAC download of an FM broadcast. The sound quality was very good but there was a catch. The radio station ID would callout 3 or 4 times throughout the performance including right in the middle of "Hallelujah" (a travesty!). I archived the download and left it at that. That was until earlier this month when I was able to get my hands on 6 of the 12 tracks as an mp3 download from an alternative soundboard source and in a greater slice of luck I was able to purchase a physical copy of the bootleg "Son Of The Starsailor" containing a further 3 tracks from the performance! So I used all three sources to reconstruct the whole performance with all the station ID's removed. This is the result....

The Beatles: End Of The Road (The Complete Rooftop Concert '69)

End Of The Road is a silverpressed bootleg of The Beatles final live performance on the roof of the Apple Studios building, Savile Row, London (30/01/69) plus outtakes from the Let It Be recording sessions.

 The Beatles were going to make a documentary film of themselves producing a TV show and writing a bunch of new songs for their next album, which was to be a return to their roots of the rocking days. This was probably inspired by the emergence of The Band, straightforward, downhome and everyone's favourite name to drop at the time.

 With a working title of "Get Back" rehearsals began at Twickenham studios on January the 2nd, 1969. The project quickly ran into trouble, George Harrison walked out after eight days complaining of continual criticism from Paul McCartney. However, he returned a week later. The TV show idea had to be dumped because they couldn't find a suitable location. They thought about hiring an ocean liner, but somewhere along the line that idea was also shelved, along with a number of other exotic suggestions. But it was John Lennon's suggestion to record a selection of songs in the controlled atmosphere of a studio.

At this time, plans were made to turn the roof at No 3 Saville Row, the Apple Corps HQ, into a tranquil roof garden, and so Ringo Starr and Michael Lindsay-Hogg decided to take a look. It seemed ideal for what they had in mind.

 The Beatles last ever public concert took place around mid-day on Thursday January the 30th and lasted a full 42 minutes, and may well have gone on longer had it not been for the complaints of the neighbour, Stanley Davis. The wool merchant next door was not a Beatles fan so it seemed. He was quoted as saying "I want this bloody noise stopped. It's an absolute disgrace". But the banker, Alan Pulverness, at the end of the street was kinder, he said "Some people just can't appreciate good music".

The film won an Oscar for best musical score and it was presented to Paul McCartney by non-other than John Wayne, Big Leggy. But by the time it was premiered on May the 13th, 1970, The Beatles had split. The dream was over..."I'd like to say 'Thankyou' on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition".

CAST: The Quarwood Studios Demo Tape

CAST formed in 1992 by John Power and Peter Wilkinson after Power left The La's and Wilkinson's former band Shack had split. Following early line-ups with different guitarists and drummers, Liam "Skin" Tyson and Keith O'Neill joined Cast in 1993.

After leaving as the bass player of The La's in December of '91 John Power began to search for an outlet for his own material and form a new band. Having switched from bass to rhythm guitar whilst residing at Bruckley House (a near derelict squat in Mossley Hill) Power began jamming with friends and with an ever changing line up began to form Cast. The first addition to the band was ex-Shack bassist Peter Wilkinson who had seen Power performing acoustically at a free festival in Liverpool, and who Power had seen around town. Embryonic lineups of the band, featuring several guitarists including Ged Malley, ex-La's members Barry Sutton and Cammy and drummer Russell Brady started gigging in mid 1992. Power would later state that he was never happy with these lineups. Unhappy with the band and the demos recorded with Who sound engineer Bob Pridden, he split the band up and extricated himself from his Go! Discs contract in Summer 1993, with whom he was still signed to following his departure from The La's and set about forming a new lineup with Wilkinson.

The band's debut album All Change, released October 1995 was produced by John Leckie who had previously worked with The Stone Roses and The Verve and had also previously worked with Power in The La's. The album shot to No. 7 in the UK charts, reaching double platinum and went on to become the fastest selling debut album in the history of the Polydor label, outselling the likes of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who and The Jam.








In 2010 a deluxe edition of All Change was released which featured a remastered version of the album plus rarities, B-sides, demos and live tracks. Amongst these demos were 3 tracks from the Bruckley House Cassette (recorded in 1991 while John was still with The La's) and 3 tracks from the Quarwood Studios demo tape which was produced by Bob Pridden.

A few years ago while searching online for various bootlegs I stumbled across the Quarwood Studios demo tape (although at the time I had no idea what it was) on a foreign website which, sadly, no longer exists. There were lots of bootlegs on this site but almost all of the links were dead. Lucky the Cast one wasn't.
I have no idea of the original track order or even if this is the complete tape but there are 18 tracks including 7 songs that would eventually make it on to the album All Change,  8 songs that would become b-sides and 3 songs that would never be released at all.
